One Very Good Uber Ride

In the midst of the flurry of paddle releases and first impressions, writing took a back seat as other responsibilities caught up with me. But while I may have been quiet on the writing front, the music and pickleball never stopped.

I spend more time with music than almost anything else. It keeps me company on my commutes, and I even have a playlist to get me into “Mode 2” before pickleball games. Because apparently, getting into the kitchen requires more than just warming up your third-shot drops. Sometimes, you need the right soundtrack.

Now, one of my friends absolutely cannot stand silence. Not even in an Uber. So, on one particular ride, she asked the driver to put on some music.

He switched on Nova Radio.

And just like that, an ordinary Uber ride turned into an unexpectedly brilliant listening session.

One pop song flowed into another. Familiar melodies appeared when I least expected them, beats blended effortlessly, and before I could properly register one song, another had already taken over. It was one seamless mashup after another, with transitions so smooth that the whole hour felt like one long, perfectly timed playlist.

You know that feeling when you hear something so good that you stop whatever you’re doing just to listen?

That was me.

Mind. Blown.

Did we end up singing along in the car? Perhaps. Were there head bobs? Most certainly. All I know is that by the time we reached our destination, I had discovered something I didn’t know I needed.

A few days passed, but I couldn’t get that hour of mashups out of my head. So, naturally, I put my limited research skills to work. I needed to know who was behind the magic.

Enter DJ Scudda, Nova Nation’s resident DJ.

Turns out, he has published his playlists on SoundCloud. And my absolute favourite? Nova Nation Megamix — February 2026.

Pure summer vibes. Seamless transitions. Pop songs mashed together in ways that make you wonder why you never thought of it yourself.

So here’s a little something for your next commute, workout, or pre-pickleball ritual. Give it a listen, and share it with your favourite mashup DJ.

Because sometimes, the best discoveries aren’t planned. Sometimes, all it takes is a friend who refuses to sit in silence and an Uber driver with excellent taste in radio stations.
