I want this badly.

Some songs need no introduction.

Kit Chan’s Home is one of them.

As part of its National Day project, ART/ST Records is giving one of Singapore’s most beloved National Day songs the vinyl treatment. For anyone who grew up singing “this is home, truly” at school assemblies, National Day celebrations, or while watching the parade on television, that’s a rather tempting proposition.

I’ve never quite outgrown my love for vinyl records and cassette tapes. There is an unexplainable warmth to them that streaming has never fully replicated – Spotify, I still love and use you every single day. Perhaps it’s the ritual. Perhaps it’s the sound. Or perhaps it’s simply nostalgia doing what nostalgia does best.

Either way, I approve. This is limited to 61 copies which will be signed by Kit Chan and pre-orders are up tomorrow.

Now, if someone could please release a few more of my favourite National Day songs on vinyl, my wallet and record shelf would greatly appreciate the opportunity to suffer together.

First, Stefanie Sun’s We Will Get There.

As a fellow NTU alumna, I may be slightly biased, but it’s hard to deny just how catchy that song is. More than two decades later, it still finds its way into National Day playlists and somehow manages to get stuck in my head all over again.

Then there’s Count On Me Singapore.

Really, who can ever forget that track?

It has become so deeply woven into our collective memory that most Singaporeans probably know at least part of the chorus by heart. Whether you first heard it in school, at the National Day Parade, or from a particularly enthusiastic teacher, it’s one of those songs that instantly transports you back in time.

Now, if someone could put both of those on vinyl, I’d be first in line.
